Triple Mango NL16: Rosy Pinks & Golden Nudes

🥭 Kosmische Americana 🥭 some gorgeous ambient 🥭 and baggy sweaters

Hey there!

Leaves are falling, sweaters are out and after doing a couple Mango Morning shows as Evening shows we’re back on the Sunday morning tip with some cozy vibes to round out the weekend.

🥭 TAKE IT ON THE GO VIA NK FUNKY 🥭

The wave of excellent albums and track releases continues to amaze as I’ve stumbled upon some lovely new cosmic Americana, slacker rock, kosmische krautrock, and gorgeous ambient, all ripe for a Sunday spin.

Hope you’re like me and discover a new favorite to complement the season.

🥭🥭🥭

Album: Hataałii - Waiting For A Sign (2024)

Laid back surf-country / slacker rock album from Navajo songwriter/poet Hataałi that’s been a welcome companion to the sweater weather here in Germany. If you’re into Mac DeMarco, King Krule, and the like, I reckon this will hit the spot.

Album: meagre martin - Gut Punch (2023)

American expat Berliners who walk the line between dream-pop, Americana, shoegaze, and 90s indie vibes. My good bud Xani discovered them opening up for Chastity Belt and put me onto them recently as we both love indie rock in this lane. A warm hug before an extended night out.

Tune: Steve Gunn - Clean Floor (2024)

Cuddled up next to a fireplace in a remote cabin in the mountains. Just a gorgeous 20+ minute piece of ambient guitar music to get lost in.

Album: Alaskan Tapes - Something Ephemeral (2024)

Alaskan Tapes has been an ambient staple these past years for hazy mornings, late night comedowns, long flights, midday meditations, and generally alleviating the weight of the world.

An undercurrent of melancholy could be used to describe a large majority of the music that’s shared on here.

Album: Feeling Figures - Everything Around You (2024)

A baggy sweater of an album from Montreal garage rockers Feeling Figures with a mix of fuzzy lo-fi punk, washed-out psychedelia, and art pop. It has the warmth of a record recorded and mixed at home during the ‘omicron winter’. Which it was.

Album: Christopher Haddow - An Unexpected Giant Leap (2024)

Another contemplative journey of gentle, instrumental guitar music out on Errol’s Hot Wax, a DIY label run out of a small pizza shop in Scotland. A slow, possibly candle-lit morning companion.

Album: Croatian Amor - A Part of You in Everything (2023)

An absolute tear-jerker of an ambient / electronica crossover album released on the excellent Posh Isolation label out of Denmark. Highly suggest diving into Posh Isolation if you’re into this heartwarming ambient stuff. Also suggest checking out his inspiration behind the album.

I think it’s music which is best listened to at night out under the stars.

Archive: Tina Moore - Never Gonna Let You Go (1995)

A seminal piece of 90s R&B whose sampling essentially led to the creation of 2-step garage. Brought to the surface this week as said sampling was in turn sampled by Jamie xx and opens his new album, to melancholic effect. Tina’s original version is the one that does it for me though.

Archive: La Düsseldorf - Viva (1978)

Went to see Fred Armisen do his ‘Comedy for Musicians’ show here in Berlin this past week and as he was doing drum impressions of various genres he shouted out Klaus Dinger from German krautrock band Neu!. Revisiting Neu! after that gig subsequently led me to La Düsseldorf, the band Klaus created after Neu! split up in the late 70s. Always a joy discovering gems from the Kosmiche genre a la Can and Tangerine Dream. Also kinda cheesy in a good way a la George Baker.

Archive: George Jackson - All Because of Your Love (1972 - 1984)

One of those underappreciated Muscle Shoals songwriters from the late 60s/70s who was behind classics for the likes of Clarence Carter, Wilson Pickett, Duane Allman, and even Bob Segar. Timeless, golden hour soul.
